Daniel Kuwornu

Founder & Group Chair

Daniel Kuwornu is the visionary Founder and Group CEO of KAZU, bringing over two decades of diverse and high-impact experience across Banking and Finance, Energy, Oil & Gas, Process Engineering, and Derivative Trading. With a proven track record of delivering strategic financial solutions and driving large-scale infrastructure development, Daniel is a respected leader at the intersection of finance and engineering.

Before founding KAZU, Daniel served as a Director at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, where he managed a robust portfolio spanning oil & gas, energy, and infrastructure. His expertise in corporate, project, and structured trade finance enabled him to provide innovative, sustainable financing solutions for a broad client base—including large corporates, SMEs, and government institutions.

As an associate at Goldman Sachs, Daniel supported complex derivatives trading by integrating his deep understanding of financial markets with a background in engineering. Earlier in his career, he played a strategic role at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), contributing to high-impact project initiatives and sectoral development for the Corporation.

Throughout his career, Daniel has been a mandated lead arranger and advisor for both debt and equity capital across multiple sectors and jurisdictions, consistently helping clients access and structure capital for growth and transformation.

Daniel holds an MBA from Duke University in the United States and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana.

With a unique blend of technical insight and financial acumen, Daniel Kuwornu continues to lead KAZU in delivering bespoke solutions and creating lasting value for partners across Africa and beyond.

Franklin Oboe Akwaah

Franklin Oboe Akwaah

Principal: Corporate & Project Finance

Franklin is a Financial Advisor to local and multinational companies as well as governments on capital markets, corporate finance and project finance advisory transactions.

For 20 years, he has assisted clients across multiple industries with capital raising advisory, valuations, financial modelling, infrastructure advisory, investment appraisals, debt advisory, financial restructuring, strategic planning and risk advisory engagements.

Having worked in Deloitte & Touche both in Ghana and South Africa, Pine Tree Capital SA, IFS Capital among others, Franklin has garnered two decades of consulting experience and expertise across a wide spectrum of sectors such as energy (power & oil & gas), real estate, public infrastructure, healthcare, financial services (insurance, banks, pension), agribusiness, ports, manufacturing sectors.

Franklin leads a dynamic team of consultants as the Managing Partner of Panorama Consulting Limited, a strategic pan-African business and financial advisory firm focused on developing economies with experience in Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Zambia, Gambia and South Africa

He is also the Finance Transformation Lead at Payinc Group (PayAngel), a global fintech, headquartered in the United Kingdom.

He holds a Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Taxation from Graduate School of Business, GIMPA and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana. He is also a Certified Risk Analyst trained at the Leoron Institute, Dubai. He is currently a candidate in the Finance Leadership Programme of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the United Kingdom

Doug Shuster

Principal

Shuster is a co-founder of Tuatara Group and brings to the Kazu team over 20 years of experience performing infrastructure project planning and investment due diligence in over 50 emerging market countries. He previously served as the US Trade and Development Agency’s Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Office Director in Johannesburg overseeing the investments in over 20 African countries; Country Manager managing regional portfolios in South and Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa; and as an analyst in the agency’s Office of the Economist evaluating the agency’s project portfolio.

He has extensive experience working with project developers and public and private financing institutions to advance projects in emerging markets, including with IFC, AfDB, IDB, World Bank, EXIM Bank, OPIC, and DBSA.  Shuster has experience in a wide array of infrastructure sectors, including energy, water/wastewater, ICT, and transportation. His recent work includes feasibility studies and financing plans for renewable energy mini grids in Ghana, smart grid projects in Vietnam and Costa Rica and smart city projects in India and Jamaica.

He holds a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy with a focus on development economics and international trade and investment and a bachelor’s degree with majors in economics and international development from Clark University.

Victor Kofi Sunu-Attah

Victor Kofi Sunu-Attah

Senior Advisor

Victor Kofi Sunu-Attah is an Executive with over 33 years of experience in Ghana’s oil, gas and energy industry, including 20 years in leadership roles. He has significantly influenced Ghana’s energy landscape through his expertise in reservoir engineering, project management, power project development as well as other projects in the energy sector, and leading diverse teams to execute successful world class projects.

He has played key leadership roles in the setting up of Ghana National Gas Company and in the transformation of GNPC and in the attainment of its operatorship agenda.

In his over 33 years’ service at GNPC, he rose to occupy the position of General Manager of the Engineering Division. His leadership has been crucial in developing multi-billion-dollar projects that enhance Ghana’s energy security and economic growth, including the Jubilee Field, TEN, and Gye Nyame/Sankofa projects. He also contributed to the deep-water Pecan field and the LNG project, solidifying Ghana’s position in the global energy market.

In addition, Mr. Sunu-Attah played a key role in expanding Ghana’s natural gas infrastructure, leading the development of the domestic market and crucial projects like the Gas Master Plan and the US$750 million Western Corridor Gas Infrastructure Development Project.

With a strong track record in innovation and operational efficiency, Mr. Sunu-Attah is uniquely positioned to lead future initiatives in Global and Ghana’s energy sector. He holds an Executive MBA in Project Management from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from NTNU in Norway, and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from KNUST. He also serves on the boards of various industrial companies, educational institutions and others.

Patrick Ahorlu

Principal

Patrick Ahorlu brings a wealth of expertise to the KAZU team, combining years of experience as an Equity Investment Banker with Goldman Sachs and as a founder of Fork Freight, a successful US-based trucking company. His career has been marked by a consistent ability to deliver superior returns and create lasting relationships, setting his clients and organizations apart from the competition.

During his time at Goldman Sachs, Patrick traded equities across a variety of sectors, managing over 100,000 client relationships. His exceptional ability to protect and grow client assets in both stable and volatile markets earned him a reputation as a trusted advisor. With an analytical background, Patrick ensured his clients’ portfolios were well-diversified and fully hedged against market shocks, delivering returns above market performance.

As the founder of Fork Freight, Patrick’s focus on supply chain management and customer service excellence has driven the company’s success and fuelled consistent, superior returns for clients. His unique insights into the logistics sector provide valuable context and understanding of the broader economic landscape, which, in turn, benefits both KAZU’s clients and operations.

At KAZU, Patrick leverages his expertise in managing complex equity transactions, navigating market dynamics, and building long-term client relationships to bring exceptional value to the team. His unique blend of investment acumen and client management experience ensures that KAZU’s clients are always positioned at the forefront of their industries.

 

Ben Asare

Senior Advisor

Ben is a highly accomplished finance professional with over two decades of expertise spanning healthcare and pharmaceutical investing, banking and corporate finance, development finance, and risk management.

He currently serves as Senior Director at Pfizer, leading the Institute of Translational Equitable Medicine (ITEM), where he leverages innovative financing strategies to advance translational medicine and improve patient outcomes globally. Previously at Pfizer, he was the Global Access Financing Lead, spearheading enterprise-wide initiatives to mobilize private-sector capital for An Accord for a Healthier World—Pfizer’s flagship program aimed at closing the global health equity gap, targeting 1.2 billion people across 45 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In this role, he structured market-based transactions and forged partnerships to strengthen health systems in LMICs.

Ben is also a Senior Advisor at Catrana Capital in New York, where he focuses on healthcare and pharmaceutical investments, deal origination, and business operations. His prior experience includes serving as Senior Consultant at the African Development Bank, Managing Director at Kedari Limited (a boutique investment bank in Ghana), and holding capital markets and risk management roles at Citigroup in New York and St. Louis. He began his career at State Street in Boston.

Ben holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Relations from Hampshire College and an MBA in Finance and International Business from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

Betty Annan

Betty is a dynamic and self-driven professional, renowned for her exceptional leadership and strategic expertise. With a wealth of experience in policy advisory, as well as managerial, technical, and operational guidance, she has successfully steered the planning and execution of diverse, high-impact projects.

Her core competencies span Climate Risk Assessment, Agricultural Value Chain Analysis, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, and Natural Resource Management, among other specialised fields. Betty’s work is characterised by precision, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to delivering value—qualities that have earned her an impressive roster of satisfied clients, including USAID, the Government of Ghana, and other globally respected organisations.

Academically, Betty is exceptionally accomplished. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, a Doctorate in Plant Medicine from the University of Florida, an MSc. in Natural Resources from the University of Greenwich (UK), and a BSc. in Agriculture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana).

Betty combines her deep technical knowledge with a results-oriented approach, making her an invaluable asset in advancing sustainable development, risk management, and policy-driven growth initiatives.

Yaw Ananga

Yaw Ananga is a seasoned Marketing and Product Specialist with extensive expertise in portfolio management tools, market research, and strategic partnerships. He has a proven track record in developing joint market strategies with value chain partners, driving business growth and market expansion.

With a strong focus on financial and business marketing, Yaw has consulted for multiple U.S.-based companies, enhancing their marketing portfolios and positioning them for competitive success. As Manager at PAM Consulting, he successfully built and led the firm’s marketing function. At Kalypson, he defined product roadmaps and implemented marketing strategies for a Fortune 500 specialty chemicals manufacturer.

Yaw holds an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, equipping him with a robust foundation in strategy, innovation, and market leadership.

Kajiya Kantumoya

Kajiya brings over two decades of experience in investment banking and financial services, with a proven track record in structuring and executing complex transactions across Africa. He previously served as Director of Africa Investments at National Standard Finance LLC, where he specialized in public and private infrastructure, sovereign and sub-sovereign debt, large-scale real estate, capital-intensive projects, and broader banking and financial services.

Earlier in his career, Kajiya worked with FinVision, successfully arranging over US$200 million in financing for banks, mining companies, and manufacturing firms across the continent.

He holds a BSc in Banking and Finance from the University of Manchester, a Diploma in Capital Markets from the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments (UK), and a Diploma in Business Studies from the Institute of Commercial Management (UK).
